A Little Romance
While it is a well-known fact that Lee had a very active love life, Amanda has had a few romantic entanglements of her own, some serious, some only mild flirtations. They are outlined below in no particular order, while above, she shares kisses with (l-r) Joe King, James Delano, Alan Chamberlain and Lee Stetson.
Note: Since they never appeared on-screen, this page does not include the mysterious Jim Saarinen with whom Amanda had some kind of involvement at Hilton Head in 1976 while she was married to Joe, or anyone she dated prior to her marriage to Joe, though it seemed she had several dates in high school as mentioned in conversation between her and Dotty in "Any Number Can Play."

The first love of Amanda's life (as far as we know), Joe and Amanda were married in '72, divorced in '82, yet remained close friends even after their divorce. He is a Georgetown University educated lawyer who works for the Emergency Aid Organization. As such, he travels frequently. We know that through the course of his job, he has travelled to Japan(Santa) and Estoccia.(TWWH) He is the father of her two boys, Phillip and Jamie King and appeared in 4 episodes:

Dean was Amanda's boyfriend at the beginning of the series. He is a metorologist who works for the weather bureau. It is unknown how soon after her divorce, Amanda began seeing him, but we know from "There Goes the Neighborhood" that it was long enough that they took at least one vacation together. He is not referenced as Amanda's boyfriend after "I Am Not Now..." though there is an allusion to him by Dotty in "One Bear Dances..." in which she states that Amanda was "engaged to a wonderful man," however, during the first season when Amanda was still seeing him, we are never given any indication, despite Dotty's inordinate amount of nudging, that any such thing was true. While he is mentioned in several episodes, he only actually appears in two, "The First Time" and "The ACM Kid."

Alan sought out Amanda solely to keep tabs on her association with the Agency. Known by Lee as the mysterious "Dodger," this is unknown to Amanda until the "friendship ring" he gave her is found to have a bug inside it. It's not known for sure just how long she dated him, but he did make references to a couple of "lukewarm goodnight kisses." (The Artful Dodger)

While on assignment as a tourist to watch him, Amanda literally ran into Alan, after which, she agreed to go for coffee with him, followed later by a dinner date and a breakfast date the next day. While they shared a warm kiss, it was clear that it made her uncomfortable. Whether that was due to lying to him or her growing interest in Lee is uncertain; Possibly both played a role in her discomfort. Once exposed, she apologizes for tricking him and they share a goodbye kiss. (A Lovely Little Affair)

While David showed what seemed to be a genuine interest in Amanda, one could aruge that he only did so to protect himself, since he suspected (correctly) that Lee was the one heading up the internal invastigation to uncover the spy within the Agency. Amanda's date with David sparked a bit of jealous from Lee. (The Mole)

Delano flirts shamelessly with Amanda at a party where Lee has left her to her own devices. At said party, he asks for her number and thinking on her feet, she made one up as well as a false name. She is encouraged by Billy to accept his dinner inviatation as a distraction and later an invitation to a party at his home, which leads to her being drugged by his partner-in-crime, Hollander. (Service Above and Beyond)

While Amanda never dated Connie, (much to his disappointment) he admitted to her that he's been in love with her since high school. (To Catch a Mongoose)
|
Amanda met Bryce at the PTA due to him having a son in Jamie's class. We are left to assume that the movie and subsequent coffee date at Chez Tayir was a first date. Described by Francine as "old money, brilliant law career..." and by Lee first as "a stiff" and then in a fit of childish jealousy as "that polo player." (Spiderweb)
|
The baron rescued Amanda from his own henchmen when they tried to run her down and then invited her to a party at his home. He had an obsession with picking tiny bits of lint from people's clothes. Unknown to Amanda, he was the assassin they were looking for.
(The Times, They Are a Changin') |
Byron Jordan offered Amanda a job at his security company when she needed more money for her boys and invited her to an intimate dinner at his home. He was murdered shortly thereafter by a man who wanted access to his company for nefarious reasons, leaving Amanda accused of doing the deed. (Murder Between Friends)
|
Bela was a football player and refugee from Liechtenstein who was quite taken with Amanda. He asked her out within moments of meeting her for pizza and bowling which she politely turned down. Later on, to hide that he was speaking to her about his troubles, he kissed her to make it appear that they were merely having a clandestine rendezvous. (Sudden Death)
|
Volkenauer was another man who was enamored of Amanda and asked her out for a "typical Bavarian meal" after helping to clear her name of counterfeiting charges in Munich. (Our Man in Tegernsee)
|
Whitsett hit on Amanda at a party that she attended with Lee and Emily to uncover a plot to sell plans for a stealth aircraft named Falcon Wing. Little did Amanda know, he was the brains behind the scheme and she found herself being used as his go-between. (The Three Faces of Emily)
|
Lupo appeared to have been watching Amanda at a party because within seconds of Lee leaving her side, he swooped in with a cheesy, "I must know you" and complimenting her on her beauty. His advances were quickly brought to an end by Lee returning to her. (Dead Ringer)
|
Craig was yet another man who tried to pick Amanda up when Lee wasn't by her side during her first experience trawling. He has a law degree from Georgetown and used the oh-so-original "Haven't we met somewhere before," then proceeded to list off places they could have met. Amanda quickly escaped to find Lee, fretting to him that she felt like bait on a hook, which he informed her that she was. (J Edgar's Ghost)
|
While Amanda and Lord Bromfield never showed any interest in one another, it was presumed that they were having an affair when a tabloid reporter snapped a photo of them together in a seemingly intimate pose. Adding to the scandal was the fact that he'd spent quite a lot of time in the Washington area without his wife. Rather than deny it to the press, Bromfield suggested that Amanda and Lee join him at his home for a weekend and pretend to be a couple. (Affair at Bromfield Hall)
|
Never named on-screen, this man was another one who hit on Amanda within seconds of Lee going off to look for a contact at a party. He raised a glass to her and greeted her in French. She quickly turned away, clearly not interested and mercifully was spared any further advances by a loud drum roll as James Delano made his announcement. (Service Above and Beyond)

Last, but certainly not least is our hero, Lee. After three years of "We're not involved" denial on both sides, Lee and Amanda finally became a serious couple with them finally admitting they were in love in "Stemwinder, Part 1" and eventually marrying in "Do You Take This Spy."
Note: I'll be adding an entire section devoted to their romance at a later time. |
